Frequently Asked Questions
1
What if I short term rent my property? (eg airBNB, booking.com)
Just let us know. There may be additional fees if you short term rent and have more complicated needs (i.e. GST registration or mixed used assets) as these require a lot more time. We can handle it - we just need to know & give you a quote!
2
How do I sign up with you?
Just contact us here or email us kiaora@relaxitstax.nz
We'll let you know if we need anything further - it's a super simple process!
There is no commitment, you are free to come and go as you like - by default you'll stay in our system each year unless you advise otherwise.
3
What expenses can I claim?
We will walk you through this when you sign up. If you have recently bought a rental we can explain an extra expense that can help save a lot of tax over a number of years! If you have questions along the way, just reach out - we are happy to provide simple advice within the fixed fee. If it's complicated we'll quote before we do anything!
4
We are buying a new home and want to rent out our old home - what's the best way to do it?
Great question and good to ask before you rent it! We can possibly restructure the ownership of the to-be rental property into a company to keep it commercially seperate and assist with having deductible lending against the rental rather than your new house. Before you buy your new house and rent your old one out is the time to do it!
5
What if I'm behind on my tax returns?
You're not the first, and you won't be the last! We've done it before and we are happy to do it again. Nothing quite like relaxing after you have filed a few years of overdue returns! Quite often there is nothing to pay IRD (apart from a late fee or two), so it's great to get it done and there is no judgement here!
6
When are my tax returns due?
When you don't have an agent, they are due 7th of July each year. Any tax to pay is due 7th February the following year.
With us they are due 31 March the year after (one whole year to file) and any tax to pay is due 7th April the following year.
